The 'Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn' Countdown: Who Has Breakout Star Potential

Laura Byrne-Cristiano is a co-owner of The Twilight Lexicon, the longest continuously operating Twilight Saga fansite on the web. You can read her Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn column here on Movies.com every other Thursday. Every time I turn around it seems like some film is being promoted as “The Next Twilight”. Now personally I don’t think anything is “The Next Twilight” anymore than I thought Twilight was “The Next Harry Potter”. I always want to ask those folks, “A wizard coming-of-age tale and a vampire romance are the same how exactly?” On the other hand, giving these well-intentioned people the benefit of the doubt, they are probably talking about the next big breakout hit. In any case this whole...

Taylor Lautner interview on Twilight Eclipse

Taylor Lautner is fast becoming a go-to young Hollywood actor for demanding action roles. He's about to start filming "Abduction," a Jason Bourne-style thriller, and has lined up two action-heavy flicks — "Stretch Armstrong" and "Cancun" — further down the line. Plus he signed up for, then parted ways with, "Max Steel," a superhero movie in which he would have played a kid imbued with the power of nanobots.

The 18-year-old, in short, digs action. It's no surprise, then, that when it comes to picking his favorite film in the "Twilight" series, he's going with the upcoming "Eclipse" — the one that ratchets up the action in a way Twilighters have not yet seen.

"It was my favorite book, so I was always looking forward to the day that I got to film it," Lautner told MTV News of "Eclipse," due in theaters June 30. "The final product turned out even better than I expected."

Credit goes to director David Slade, the man behind the horror flick "30 Days of Night" and someone with both a distinct visual style and a talent for capturing run-and-gun action sequences.

"It's my favorite, because it's the most guy-friendly by far," Lautner explained of "Eclipse." "It's dangerous. There's a lot of action. The romance is still there, but the action level is stepped up way more. It's great."

Less than great, however, is watching himself up on the big screen without a shirt on. Because "shirtless" is pretty much Lautner's default state during the film. Fans might love those scenes, but the actor says they're both uncomfortable to shoot and to watch.

"It is a little awkward for me to watch myself and, actually, when we're filming those scenes," he said.

Twilight Saga: Eclipse Still Set For June Release

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is still on course to hit movie screens in June, despite reports its release had been pushed back.

Various US media outlets had speculated as to why no trailer had emerged for the third film in the vampire saga.

CNN also incorrectly reported in its preview of forthcoming movie releases that Eclipse would arrive in July.

However, sources at film studio Summit Entertainment have told Gossip Cop that the movie is still set for release on June 30.

Directed by David Slade, Eclipse follows the ever-complicated love triangle between Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) and Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner).

Twilight Saga: Eclipse has not been show to test audiences

Sorry Twi-hards — despite talk that the third instalment of the Twilight Saga: Eclipse had been shown to test audiences, sources close to the production say it is not true.

According to Gossip Cop, the “testimonials” and other reports circulating on the Web this weekend are false.

In fact, no Eclipse screenings have taken place and the rumours about the movie’s trailer are also incorrect.

A source connected to the production says talk of a screening is “absolutely not true.”

Peter Facinelli's 'Breaking Dawn' Wishlist: Two Films, Chris Weitz And An 'Interesting' Birth Scene

Somehow it seems unsurprising that Peter Facinelli, who got a total reboot of his career with "The Twilight Saga," would like "Breaking Dawn" to make it to the big screen. When MTV News spoke to Peter at Z100's Jingle Ball Friday, he shared a full wish-list of things he would like in regards to the fourth (and, according to him, fifth) installments of the series.

First and foremost, Pete would like to see this novel split into two films. "I would love to have them break it into two parts because it's such a thick book," he said. "I think that'd be fantastic to split into two, 'cause there's so much information. Whatever happens, I'm sure it will be good."

While we have already detailed why we don't think two movies would be such a good idea for the fluff-filled novel, we do agree with Peter's director choice (as does Kristen Stewart). "I'd love to see Chris Weitz back," he said.

He added as to whether there's actually a chance Chris would agree, "I don't know. I mean, I know he actually has another film he's doing right now, so your guess is as good as mine. I'm sure they'll get somebody very capable. I mean, we've had some pretty fantastic directors so far."

Two films and Chris as director complete a "Breaking Dawn" checklist most fans would agree with, and the scene Peter most looks forwards to shooting is another fan favorite. "You know, there's this scene where Bella has the baby," Peter said, jokingly adding, "Like any other doctor, I'm not there at the time. I think I'm on the ninth playing a round of golf, but it's an interesting scene. I'd like to see how that's shot."

Unfortunately, this is only speculation and wishful thinking thus far, as Peter said he hasn't heard any "Breaking Dawn" news from Summit. "Usually the fans know before me. I've been combing the Web sites to see if we're doing a fourth movie," Peter said. "I haven't heard or seen [a script yet]. I think everybody's just kind of still on the 'New Moon' high."

Do you agree with Peter's wishlist?

5 Facts About The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

It's just seven months until Eclipse, the third instalment of Stephenie Meyer's popular book series, hits the big screen. RT caught up with the cast in LA's Four Seasons hotel during their manic New Moon press tour to get the latest on the eagerly anticipated film. We learned that Robert Pattinson hates pranks, that Nikki Reed loves werewolves and that we may just see a fifth film.

Fact #1: It's Darker

The brand new poster for Eclipse (above) hints at a darker tone with its brooding storm clouds. With 30 Days of Night director David Slade at the helm, it's unsurprising. "Every movie is different because we work with a different director on each one, which I love," Taylor Lautner tells RT. "David Slade is perfect for the third film because it's darker. Eclipse was my favourite book."

Ashley Greene, who plays vampire Alice, tells RT that Slade isn't just a prince of darkness. "David is actually hysterical," she laughs, "He has such a dry sense of humour that sometimes you don't know if he's kidding or not. Eclipse will be amazing because he has made it far edgier and more dramatic. It's going to look very cool."

Fact #2: There Will Be Less "Love Story" and More "War"

"Eclipse isn't as intimate as Twilight or New Moon," Robert Pattinson explains to us. "We're at war, so I get to interact with more characters, not just Kristen. You'll also find out more about the other members of the Cullen family. It just feels bigger." But -- fear not, Twihards -- that isn't to say the love story is cast aside altogether. "New Moon set up a love triangle with Bella, Edward and Jacob," says Lautner. "So we explore that further in Eclipse. It's a tough situation for all of them because Bella is torn between two guys, Jacob can't get the girl that he loves and then there's Edward, with all of his issues."

Fact #3: The Werewolves Will Crank Up the Sex Appeal

"We all know the appeal of the vampire family," says Nikki Reed, who plays vampire Rosalie. "But the werewolf boys are on a whole different level. They interact with a youthful, playful, comfortable warmth. It's very sexy."

As for Pattinson, he admits that his personal jealousy about Taylor Lautner's newly-ripped physique actually comes in handy for the role. "In Eclipse, Taylor and I have lots of scenes together where we have to be jealous and petty with each other," he says. "So it helps that I actually do feel inadequate when I see his body, especially because he's younger than me. He fulfills every criteria of what teenage girls want, physically, in a guy. I felt like a had to prove myself against him."

Fact #4: There's More Action

"Filming Eclipse actually changed my life," says Nikki Reed of the arduous training regime the cast had to endure. "I have never been so fit -- this is the first time in my life I have actually had a bicep. It's bizarre to compare how we look now to how we all looked in the first movie. The entire cast turned up on set for Eclipse looking super-buff."

New cast member Bryce Dallas Howard tried to play a prank on the crew during one stunt, but she didn't count on Pattinson's awkwardness. "We had a fight scene where Bryce had to grab my hair," he laughs. "So she took a clump of hair from my stunt double's wig and was going to pretend she had pulled it from my head. She told me to scream and storm off set, but it was so embarrassing. She had this huge clump of hair in her hand, and I was like 'oww,' really unconvincingly."

While the rest of the cast were having fun with stunts, spare a thought for poor Taylor Lautner. "Eclipse is a lot more physical for my character," he explains, "but any time I have any kind of action, I'm a wolf, so it's all done with CGI. It's a bummer."

Fact #5: The Ending Will Be Nicely Set Up For a Fourth - And Perhaps Fifth - Film

There are four books in The Twilight Saga: Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. But Ashley Greene gave RT the strongest indication yet that there might be five films. "We have finished filming Eclipse and one would assume that, if New Moon does as well as Twilight, then we'll start filming Breaking Dawn next year," she says.

"The only thing is, Breaking Dawn is a very large book so it would be a really long movie. We're thinking they might decide to split it into two parts, like they did with Harry Potter. Either way, we need to get on with shooting them because, unlike Harry Potter, vampires don't age. So we all need to look the same!"

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is released worldwide in the summer of 2010.

Pattinson set for massive share in £300m Twilight bonanza

London Robert Pattinson may end up with a multi-million pound share of earnings from the latest project in the hit Twilight series.

The 22-year-old, who plays vampire Edward Cullen, was said to be set for a double treat from the series based on books by Stephanie Meyer.

Bosses at Summit Entertainment were allegedly mulling splitting the final novel, Breaking Dawn, into two parts after the latest film, New Moon, raked in the nearly 300 million pounds in just two weeks of its opening.

“It’s an extraordinary cash cow and the company wants to keep it going for as long as possible. They’re giving very serious consideration to the idea,” the Daily Express quoted a source as saying.

The source added: “A lot of cheque-waving and glad-handing would have to happen if the plan goes ahead. No one is locked into a fifth movie so the key talent could be looking at multi- million pound pay days.”

Terence Doyle, editor of British Film Magazine, also said: “Pattinson is central to the franchise and could basically name his price. Right now he’s the biggest star of his generation.”

What The 'Twilight' Stars Want for 'Breaking Dawn'

With the box-office success of "New Moon" and fans eagerly anticipating the June release of "Eclipse," it looks almost certain that "Breaking Dawn," the final book in the "Twilight Saga," will hit the big screen. But there are two big questions surrounding the potential film: Who will direct it, and will it be split into two movies?

MTV News spoke with the "Twilight" stars last week at a New York screening of "New Moon" and asked them to weigh in on the saga's future.

"If I had a wish list, Gus van Sant would be pretty cool," Peter Facinelli said, mirroring Robert Pattinson's director pick. "I just think he'd be an interesting choice for it. I mean, 'Milk' was phenomenal. I would just love to see 'Breaking Dawn' done, because I'd like to finish the whole chapter."

Ashley Greene said she wouldn't turn down the chance to split up "Breaking Dawn," if that's what the studio decides. "I think we all love being a part of this," she said. "And if making this into two films means we capture the essence of the fourth book better, then absolutely."

Nikki Reed agreed with Greene, noting that she just wants to see it get the green light before any other decisions are made. "It doesn't matter to me ... if they think that's what's best for the book, and if they don't think they can make it in one, then great," Reed said. "But I don't even know if they're making it."

So far, a new filmmaker has been at the helm of each "Twilight" movie, but that doesn't mean "New Moon" director Chris Weitz is against coming back if it works for him. "A lot depends on whether the fans and the studio and all of that, whether people would still like me to do it," he said. "And how my family feels about it."

Kellan Lutz wouldn't mind seeing Weitz back in the director's chair. "Out of the three, I'd love to see Chris Weitz come back," he said. "I just had so much fun shooting with him. I mean, obviously, I would just love to do ['Breaking Dawn']. There's no word. ... Hopefully we get that phone call, and if they want to make it into five movies, I just don't want it to end. I love my character so much."

The cast of Twilight Saga: Eclipse

The official word thatThe Twilight Saga: Eclipse had finished shooting came at 4:49 AM on October 29. David Slade posted the news via his Twitter account with this note: "Physically and emotionally exhausted."

No wonder. As with New Moon, the cast list for this Twilight sequel grew, adding more werewolves and vampires to Bella's ever-widening circle of friends and enemies. A guide to these new cast members follows.

BooBoo Stewart

BooBoo Stewart as Seth Clearwater

In Eclipse: As the younger brother of Leah and the son of Harry, Seth was always next in line for life as a werewolf. He fights alongside Edward and Jacob, and can pack a mean punch (or bite) when he needs to.
Verdict: He already has the happy Seth grin and russet-colored skin. We hope he has the acting credentials — oh, and fingers crossed, that he can howl.

Julia Jones

Julia Jones as Leah Clearwater

In Eclipse: Shock, horror: Leah's a werewolf, too. The only female wolf in the saga, if you want to get technical. She used to date pack leader Sam, and still hasn't gotten over his relationship with Emily.
Verdict: She looks the part physically and should compliment BooBoo Stewart well. Let's just hope they have good on-screen chemistry, or their brother-sister relationship could end up being more unbelievable than they'd like.

Catalina Sandino Moreno

Catalina Sandino Moreno as Maria

In Eclipse: Maria, the leader of an all-female fanged trio during the Southern Vampire Wars, is responsible for Jasper's vampirism. Her whereabouts are still unknown, and the Cullens haven't heard from her since Calgary. Nice lady, eh?
Verdict: After seeing her in Che, we think she'll be up to the vampire challenge. As long as she remembers Maria's "musical voice," she'll be fine.

Kirsten Prout

Kirsten Prout as Lucy

In Eclipse: Lucy was part of a trio of vampires during the Southern Vampire Wars. Together with Maria and Nettie, she put together a vampire army before eventually being killed by our very own Jasper Hale.
Verdict: Lucy is described as being "pale, tall, and blonde" — three boxes that Prout can easily tick. She has acting experience and a pretty hefty resume on her side, so her small part in Eclipse should be no problem.

Bryce Dallas Howard

Bryce Dallas Howard as Victoria

In Eclipse: Victoria, queen of the vampire newborns, makes herself a brand new army. Hell-bent on killing Bella and avenging James' death, she ends up causing a war between the Cullens (who team with the wolves) and her newborns. Guess who wins?
Verdict: While the role of Victoria isn't new, Howard is. She has the extremely difficult task of filling Rachelle Lefevre's shoes — a casting change that shocked the Twilight world. Fans are loyal to Lefevre, and we're not sure what they'll make of Howard. Guess we'll all know their verdict next summer.

Tegan And Sara Talk 'Twilight,' Gun For Spot On 'Eclipse' Soundtrack

By their own admission, Tegan and Sara are addicted to heartbreak, so when it came time to write songs for their just-released Sainthood album, they didn't stray far from what they know — cheery topics like eternal damnation, obsession and earth-shattering loss.

Of course, they also took inspiration from one other source: Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight" series.

"I read all the 'Twilight' books while we were recording Sainthood, and [producer/ Death Cab for Cutie guitarist] Chris [Walla] and I were talking about it a lot, because after we finished our record, he was going to record with Death Cab to do their song for the 'New Moon' soundtrack," Tegan Quinn told MTV News last week. "So me and him would geek out with each other and talk about it, and he'd actually be doing a job — he'd be producing our record — and I'd be on the couch [paging through], and he'd be like, 'You're on the third book already?' We nerded out with one another."

The "Twilight" series doesn't actually stray all that far from the topics Tegan and her twin sister Sara have been singing about for more than a decade now. The books are, at their very core, about love and loss (a point Death Cab made when we spoke to them about "Meet Me on the Equinox," the first single from the "New Moon" soundtrack), which sort of makes Tegan and Sara an intriguing fit for the soundtrack to "Eclipse," the next "Twilight" film.

So, if they were asked, would T&S be able to channel their inner Death Cab and contribute a vampiric love song?

"We would not say no," Sara laughed.

"We've basically become 'Death Cab for Tegan and Sara' [anyway], since Chris has produced our last two albums," Tegan joked. "It's like that movie 'District 9,' where the guy turns, like, half prawn. We're kind of like half Death Cab for Cutie. If I pulled up my pant leg right now, you'd see, like, Ben Gibbard's leg."

Exclusive: Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart Spent Night at Chateau MarmontExclusive: Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart Spent Night at Chateau Marmont

Friends with benefits?

Days after Vanity Fair released an interview with Robert Pattinson in which he declared he was just "friends" with Kristen Stewart, the two spent the night together at Hollywood's famed Chateau Marmont on Oct. 29, Usmagazine.com has learned.

The next morning, a source tells Us they shared breakfast together from Noah's Bagels (a plain bagel with walnut cream cheese for him; a blueberry with butter for her).
